U-Drive Through The Years

Explore over 40 years of U-Drive’s history, from our beginnings to becoming a trusted name in commercial vehicle hire.

1982

U-Drive was established by Dave and Gill Hamblin in 1982, with our first branch in Wareham.
1984-85

In 1984 the demand for U-Drive's services grew so we opened our second branch in Blandford and in 1985 we opened our third branch in Poole, where we still operate today!
1994-99

Between 1994 and 1999, U-Drive opened another 5 branches in Yeovil, Bournemouth Airport and Bristol, Southampton and Salisbury which are still providing local businesses with vehicle hire.
2004-07

The mid-2000s saw the number of U-Drive branches increase once again with the opening of our Bournemouth, Fareham, and Romsey branches.
2009

It was a busy year in 2009. Not only did we open our newest branch in Taunton, but we also launched our Central Reservations team who provide vital contact to our customers.
2011-12

In 2011 our Bristol branch opened and in 2012 our Exeter branch opened - both still operating!
2015

2015 was a big year for U-Drive - we launched our first branch outside of England, in Cardiff, enabling us to support more businesses than ever.
2018

Our head office was opened in 2018 on Fancy Road Poole and is where most of our departments are based including finance, central reservations, and fleet team.
2020

Navigating during COVID-19 was difficult for all. Throughout this time, U-Drive remained open, providing vehicle hire to essential businesses.
2022

2022 was a year of celebrations. We opened our first business hub and first branch in the north-west, Manchester. And U-Drive also celebrated its 40th birthday!
2024

Following the closure of some of our branches during the pandemic, we were thrilled to re-open our Fareham Branch as our second business-only hub.
2025

Today we continue to grow and support businesses throughout the UK from our network of 9 branches and fleet of over 4000 vehicles.
